I
don't really expect you to believe anything I've said so far so I'll
tell you what the package I purchased consists of. I went with
the PROLOGIC package, yeah the cheapest one, but you'd be surprised
with what you get in the package. So let's just get right into
it, here's what I got in my package:
50 GB of Disk Space
A free domain name (you pick out the domain name yourself -mine's www.willbguilty.com)
Unlimited Email Accounts
750GB of Bandwidth (how much web traffic you can have)
Tons of different types of Software Support
(CGI-Bin and Library, PHP Support, PerlScripts, MySQL, SSL Secure
Server, SSI Management, Log Files + Site Stats, Frontpage
2000/2002/2003 Extension, Shopping Carts, Web Hosting Control
Panel and Browser Based Email)
Multimedia Support (Real Audio & Video, Streaming Audio, Macromedia Shockwave, MIDI File Support and MIME Types)

e-Commerce Extras (Agora Shopping Cart, OS Commerce and a Paypal Shopping Cart)
Promotion Tools
(Marketing Guides (500+ Page Manual), Search Engine Submitter and Rank
Checker, Meta Tags and Keyword Generators, Link Checker and Bonus

Marketing)

Settings Options (GnuPG, FrontPage Extensions, Error Pages (you can design your own), Redirect Service, Mime Types and Handlers)
That's a
whole lot of stuff isn't it? And my package starts as low as
$5.95 a month, which is what I went with. It's $5.95/month if
you pay ahead for 2 years of the service and that comes out to under
$150 for two years. Two years you have your own site paid for and
hosted, now that's a deal in my mind. Now if you don't want to be
set up for 2 years, they also have a single year plan that is
$6.95/month and a monthly plan (pay as you go) for $43.45 a month.
There's a 30-Day Money Back Guarantee and there's no setup fees
or domain name fees for both yearly plans. The sites use
vDeck 2.0 and you're guaranteed a 99.9% uptime plus you can host
10 domains in 1 and have 5 different subdomains (like http://business-opportunity.willbguilty.com). Their web
builder is handy but I searched around and found another free one
called Nvu, I'm very
impressed with it and it's simple to upload your web pages to
STARTLOGIC through your vDeck after you've saved the files.
Not convinced yet? Still kind of iffy on it?
Alright well I did a little comparing to the two free services I
mentioned earlier, both of them offer hosting packages too for a fee,
so let's see how they compare.
Let's start with Tripod,
their lowest package, the Plus, is $4.95 a month. Ok, so they're a
little cheaper but what do you even get in this cheap package?
Well you don't get a free domain name, no email accounts, no
customizable error page, no web statistics, you get charged for the
setup ($10) and no subdomains for starters. You get 25 MB of disk
space (you get 49,975 MB more with STARTLOGIC) and 5 GB of monthly
bandwidth (you get 745 GB more with STARTLOGIC). If you want a
free domain name, email accounts, subdomains, web statistics or a
customizable error page then you'd have to upgrade to the Pro package
which is $8.95/month plus a $15 setup fee. They can't even come
close with disk space or bandwidth. Even with their Deluxe
Package, which is $19.95/month + a $15 setup fee, you only get 150 MB
of disk space (you get 49,850 MB more with STARTLOGIC) and only 30 GB
of bandwidth a month (you get 720 GB more with STARTLOGIC).
Still unsure if STARTLOGIC is one of the best web hosting companies out there? Well let's move onto GeoCities
then and see how they compare. Their lowest package, the Plus, is
$4.95 a month too, but let's see how bad this package turns out being
in comparison. No free domain name, you pay for the setup ($10),
no email accounts, no subdomains and no backups. You only get 500
MB of disk space (you get 49,500 MB more with STARTLOGIC) and only 25
GB of bandwidth (you get 725 GB more with STARTLOGIC). If you
want a free domain name, email accounts or subdomains, then you'll have
to upgrade to Pro which is $8.95 + a $15 setup fee. You still
don't get backups and you get 48 GB less disk space and 650 GB less
bandwidth than if you went with the PROLOGIC Package with STARTLOGIC
Web Hosting. Not even Yahoo's other (Business) Hosting Packages can compare in price or performance.
So you decide if STARTLOGIC Web Hosting is right for you. As you can see, it's hard to compare.
I'm sure you have all had a few different web pages online at one time
or another. And I, like most, chose the easy route and set up my
pages with free web hosting sites. I've tried sites like
Geocities and Tripod and I mean it's great that it doesn't cost
anything but it becomes a hassle after awhile. There are ads on
the pages and every time your site loads there are pop ups, the website
editors don't let you do too much and you're limited on your file size
and bandwidth, which is a measure of how many times people can view
your site in a month.
If you want to have a online business, or if
you just want more control over your site and how it looks and
performs, then you'll have to buy your own domain and find yourself a
good hosting package to break free of all the
limitations. Now I was a little hesitant to do this myself, I was
thinking that it'd be too big of an expensive and it may not be worth
it. I was looking around and I came across STARTLOGIC Web Hosting,
suddenly owning your own domain didn't seem so bad to me. Their
domain packages are great and are loaded with bonuses, but the best
part is that they're cheap and efficient. There's a few choices
depending on what you need to run your site and/or business; you can
just buy a domain, you can get a domain package and they also have
server packages.
