Starter Edition
(If you only want to advertise for one product or service, then choose
this - They can also help you design a website if you don't have one
already)
Standard Edition (This allows you to use full the full features and functions of Adwords and to advertise for more than one product or service)
I'd choose the Standard
Edition myself, because I plan on advertising for more then one thing
and I want to be able to use all the features. If you choose the
Standard Edition, then you are required to already have a website.
Next, you'll want to choose what language or
languages your customers speak. This can be handy if you want to
reach customers world-wide. Then you can decide on which specific
places your ads will show up in reguards to the location of the
customer, like:
Countries & Territories
(You will be able to select which countries you want your ads to
be viewed by and they will appear for customers all across the
countries you choose)
Regions & Cities (You can refine your targeted audience even more by choosing specific regions and/or specific cities of countries)
Customized
(You can select a distance limit, from either your place of
business or another location, a customer has to be inside of for your
ads to be shown to them)
I'll just choose Countries
& Territories, I don't need to refine my targeted audience that
much. Then you'll get a chance to choose specific countries.
Now you're to the important part: creating your
first ad. You'll want to fill in the basic information for your
advertisment, like:
The Headline (This will be a clickable link up at the top of your ad)
Description Line 1
(The first line under the headline to describe what's on the
page, your vistors will find themselves at, if they click on your ad)
Description Line 2
(Continue and finish off your description here - I would fill out
both lines completely, people need specifics to be assured that they
even want to go to your page)
Display URL
(This will be the link location that's shown at the bottom of your ad -
This helps customers know what the page is called that they'll be going
to, if they click your ad - This doesn't have to be the EXACT page your
ad will take them too, but it should be on the same domain name)
Destination URL (This is the actual page that you want your ad directing people to)
You may have noticed, as you fill out these sections, that there's a sample of what your ad will actually look like above.
Now you'll want to pick out the keywords for your
ad. These keywords or phrases will decide when your ad will be
shown. They have a tool to help you decide on keywords, if you
need it. It'll show you keywords that are related to whatever you
type in. Also, if you want even more help, you can use the Overture Keyword Selector Tool. It will show you which keywords and phrases are the most popular; keywords that are searched for most often.
Then you'll need to go over pricing. Pick the
currency you'll be using and then choose your daily budget. This
is VERY handy, so that you don't go broke. Once your budget is
reached in a day, your ad won't be shown anymore.
Then you'll want to enter the MAXIMUM amount you
want to pay per click of your ad. If someone clicks your ad, then
you pay this price or lower and ONLY when someone clicks your ad.
Your "bid" on your specific keywords and phrases will decide how
often and at what rank your ad will be shown. If you're the top
bidder, then your ad will be shown the most often, for that keyword,
and should be ranked up at the top. This will ensure that your ad
is visited more often. You can use their "Traffic Estimator" to help
you with this pricing.
And, although it doesn't show it on this page, I
believe it costs $5 to sign up for a new account with Adwords.
This is a one-time cost.
Then you'll review your advertisment campaign.
You can change every aspect of it at this point, if you feel the
need. If you need extra help, you can sign up to have hints and
tips emailed to you from time to time. And lastly, you can tell
them how you heard about Adwords.
That's it! Now you'll be reviewed and
hopefully get approved for your ad and new account. If you don't,
I'm sure they'll tell you why and you can fix the problems and try
signing up again. Once you're approved, I'd watch your account to
see how your ad is performing. Refine the wording and what
keywords you use often, to get the maximum amount of traffic for the
lowest price.
I really suggest that you at least THINK about using
Adwords to advertise for your site. You control every aspect of
it, including the most important part: the cost. So you don't
have to be rich to get quality, targeted traffic to your site. I
hope, if you decide to sign up, that you start to see more traffic and
sales.
Sign up for Google Adwords! Really,
you should, that is if you want more traffic to your website.
Google Adwords is one of the best ways to advertise online,
whether it's texual or image ads. If you've used Google's search
engine, then I know you've seen the types of ads that Adwords produces.
Not only will your ads be seen in their search engine results,
but they'll also be shown on websites all over the internet, if the
site owner is a member of Google Adsense.
Your Adwords ads will be slightly intelligent too,
only appearing to possible customers or visitors that are intersted in
what you have to offer. You decide what keywords, or keyword
phrases, to use in your advertising campaign to make your ads appear.
If they're using Google's search engine, then, when they type in
a specific keyword or keyword phrase that's on your list, your ad will
be shown to them. If a site owner puts Adsense code on his site,
and his page has some keywords or phrases on it that are on your list,
then your ads will show up on their page.
Google is one of the most popular search engines
used today. That being said, with your ads appearing on JUST
their search page alone, you can expect increased traffic to your page
and possible sales. And that's not factoring in the fact that
your ads will also show up on many different pages across the
internet.
