You may have already heard about Google Adwords, in fact I'm sure you've seen the ads if you use Google to search the web. They have a great program set up, which you have complete control over, where you can advertise your website, business or service through text and image ads. Your ads won't just been seen on their search page, but all over the web on other peoples' websites. They also set this up in a way that their advertising has a sort of intelligence to it; your ads will only be shown to people who are looking for what you have to offer. And if that's not enough, you also get complete control on how much your advertising is going to cost you! This really is one of the best ways online to advertise for your web page.

Now let's talk about the opposite side of advertising. You know how I said you can make money from letting people advertise on your site? Well Google has a program set up for this too called Adsense. When I mentioned above that your ads would not only be posted on Google's search page but also on other peoples' pages, this is what I meant. You can easily post code on your site and have ads posted on your page that are relevant to the content on your site. So you can see there's some intelligence to this program too. You can customize how the text ads look, decide if you want picture ads, decide the size of the ad and you put it where you want it. AND you get paid for doing this! It's really not that hard, and a little money on the side never hurts.

Banner Ads

    Another way you can get the word out for your website is to make banner ads. I know you've seen these before and probably have clicked a few. They come in all kinds of shapes and sizes and will attract more attention than a normal text ad or link would. But, just like text ads, their purpose is to drive traffic to your site and to possibly create more sales for you. I can show you how to make a few basic types of banner ads and you can take it from there. Once you have your banner ads created, you can either advertise through programs like Adwords or you can just have friends, family or business partners post your banners on their sites. This is a great way to get links to your site and get the word out and get more people interested in what you have to offer.

    I've heard it said that you need to spend more time on advertising and marketing what you have to offer than you do on the product, site or service. The more people that see it, the better the chances that it will be a success. After you see progress, you can always go back and refine your site, product or service.
